October 12: Professor Scassellati @ Science Saturdays

September 18, 2013

On Saturday, October 12, please join us for a free, public lecture by Professor Scassellati for Science Saturdays. Science Saturdays is a special lecture series designed for families that brings the excitement of research and the passion of scientists to school-age children. Each event involves a lecture by a Yale professor and engaging science demonstrations run by Yale college students. The lectures are free and open to the public and the topics explored are for kids in 7th grade and above. Learn more about Science Saturdays on the Yale Science Outreach website: onhsa.yale.edu/science-outreach-home

Professor Scassellati will be presenting his talk Robots Helping Kids, which will describe the research the lab is conducting on behalf of the NSF Expedition in socially assistive robotics. The Expedition aims to develop the fundamental computational techniques that will enable the design, implementation, and evaluation of robots that encourage social, emotional, and cognitive growth in children, including those with social or cognitive deficits. The need for this technology is driven by critical societal problems that require sustained, personalized support that supplements the efforts of educators, parents, and clinicians.
