Professor Brian Scassellati is part of a multidisciplinary team working on the project “Seeing the Rhythmic Temporal Beats of Human Language” lead by principal investigator Dr. Laura-Ann Petitto of Gallaudet University. This $900,000 grant awarded by the Keck Foundation to Gallaudet brings together partners from the University of Southern California (Dr. David Traum, Virtual Human Science), the Universita D’Annunzio, Chieti, Italy (Dr. Arcangelo Merla, Applied Psychophysiology and Thermal infrared face imaging), and Yale University (Robotics) to “conduct basic science to address the early learning needs of vast numbers of children throughout the nation who are impacted by the devastating consequences of minimal or delayed language exposure, particularly deaf children.”
Social robotics lab postdoc, Kate Tsui, will be leading research for prototyping RAVE, or “Robot AVatar thermal-Enhanced prototype.”
