Professor Scassellati recieves grant to tackle recycling ‘bottlenecks’ with human-robot collaborative teams.

Professor Scassellati and a multidisciplinary team of researchers have recieved more than $2.5 million in grants from the NSF’s “Future of Work at the Human-technology Frontier” program.  Over the course of the four-year project, the team will investigate efficacy of human-robot teams for improving the quality and profitability of the processing of recyclables.

Other principle investegators on the project include:

- Aaron Dollar, professor of mechanical engineering and materials science at the Yale School of Engineering & Applied Science.

- Marian Chertow, associate professor of industrial environmental management at the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies (F&ES).

- Berk Calli, assistant professor at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI).

- Barbara Reck, an industrial ecologist at F&ES.

- Amy Wrzesniewski, Michael H. Jordan Professor of Management at the Yale School of Management

- Jacob Whitehill, an assistant professor of computer science at WPI.

- Kate Saenko, an associate professor of computer science at Boston University (BU).

- Vitaly Ablavsky, a senior research scientist in computer science at BU.
